Well, it's actually running decently now, after a couple of days of not booting. I finally tracked the problem down to the motherboard...One of my (two) RAM slots is going bad, and the computer refuses to start if I have any RAM in that slot. The good news is that it seems to run fine if I don't have any memory in the first slot, the bad news is that I'm now down to 1GB of RAM. :-( After having 2GB in it before, I'm pretty spoiled (I specifically upgraded when I decided that the previous 1.5GB wasn't enough) and it's noticably slower. Oh well...I'm due for an upgrade next November anyway, so I may just have to bite the bullet and move it up a bit.
I got a couple of emails (albeit forwarded) from
Patrick Norton! Ok, so he may not personally know who I am, and the fact that I'm excited may just confirm that I'm terminally nerdy...But I'm still giddy over it all. :-)
Well, I gues this cop could be considered a criminal now (charges are being persued) so maybe this should just be another "Criminals aren't the brightest ever" post.

My favorite game as a whipper-snapper was the great
Wolfenstein 3D,
the grand-pappy of all First-Person-Shooters. I was feeling a bit
nostalgic for it recently, and decided to see if I could find it
again. Lo and behold, not only is the shareware version I grew up
with
still available for download,
it even runs on Windows XP. It's easier than I remember, but I
guess that the AI in games like GoldenEye, Rainbow 6, and Half-Life
2 have honed my skills beyond the point that a game designed to
run on an IBM 286 can handle. Regardless, it's still a fun blast
from the past, and I've enjoyed being able to play it again after all these years.
